How to save an Instagram story
Stories vanish after 24 hours, which is the whole idea, but now and then you want to keep one: a friend’s trip, or your own story that you forgot to save. Paste the full link to the story and this page fetches it while it’s still live.
Two honest limits. It only works for public accounts, and it needs the link to the specific story rather than just a username. The Instagram app is where you find that link.
- Open the story in the Instagram app.
- Tap the paper-plane icon or the three dots and look for Copy link.
- Paste the link into the box above and press Download.
- Save the video or photo that appears.
Good to know
- Be quick. When a story expires its link stops working and there’s nothing left to fetch.
- If you don’t see a Copy link option, the story isn’t shareable and we won’t be able to get it either.
- For your own stories, the Archive in the Instagram app is usually the easier route.
