How to download an Instagram video
Instagram doesn’t give you a download button, which gets annoying when a friend posts a clip you’d like to keep, or when you need a copy of your own video after the original is gone from your phone. This page fills that gap. Paste the link to a public video, press Download, and you get an ordinary MP4 you can keep, edit or send on.
It works on posts, not on accounts. If you can watch the video without logging in, we can almost always fetch it. If the account is private, nothing will load, and that’s how it should be.
- Open the video in the Instagram app, or on instagram.com in your browser.
- In the app, tap the paper-plane icon and then Copy link. On the website, just copy the address from the top of your browser.
- Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press Download.
- Pick the quality you want. The first button is the best one available.
Good to know
- You get the quality Instagram stores. If the original upload was blurry, the download will be too.
- On an iPhone the file lands in Safari’s Downloads list. Open it and tap Save Video to put it in Photos. Our iPhone guide shows each tap.

Does the video keep its sound?
Yes. The MP4 includes the original audio. If Instagram muted a track on the post for licensing reasons, it will be silent in the file as well.
Why did my download open in a new tab instead of saving?
Some browsers play the file first. Tap the three dots on the player and choose Download. On a phone you can also press and hold the button and pick Download linked file.
Is there a length limit?
We don’t set one. A long video can take a little longer to start because the file has to come from Instagram’s servers first.
