Best Way to Download Instagram Videos on iPhone
There are several ways to save an Instagram video on an iPhone. They’re not equal. Here’s how they compare and which one we’d use.
1. Safari and a link-based downloader (our pick)
Copy the link, paste it into the video downloader in Safari, download the MP4 and save it to Photos. Pros: nothing to install, no password, original quality. Cons: a few taps to get the file into Photos. The steps are in our iPhone guide.
2. Shortcuts
Some people use iPhone Shortcuts built to fetch media from links. Pros: can be near one-tap once set up. Cons: you have to trust whoever wrote the shortcut, it can ask for permissions, and it often breaks when Instagram changes something.
3. App Store apps
Pros: they look convenient. Cons: lots of ads, subscriptions, and some want you to log in to Instagram. Never give your Instagram password to one.
4. Screen recording
Pros: it always works. Cons: lower quality, the interface and any notification can end up in the video, and you have to trim it afterwards. It’s a last resort.
5. Instagram’s own Download option
Instagram offers a built-in download for some public Reels. Pros: it’s inside the app. Cons: it isn’t available for everything, and the file may carry a watermark. See how to avoid watermarks.
Our recommendation
Use Safari with a link-based downloader. It’s the safest, it needs no account, and it gives you the real file. Whatever you choose, downloads are for your own use, so ask the creator before reposting.
