How to save a photo from Instagram
A photo looks fine on screen, but the moment you screenshot it you lose resolution and pick up the status bar along with it. Downloading the file gets you the image Instagram actually stores, which is usually a good deal sharper than a screenshot.
Paste the link to any public photo post and you’ll get a JPG. Posts with several pictures show each one separately, so you can take just the shot you like and leave the rest.
- Find the photo in Instagram and tap the paper-plane icon beneath it.
- Choose Copy link.
- Come back to this page, paste the link into the box and press Download.
- Tap the button under the picture. On a phone, your browser may ask where to save it; choose Photos or Downloads.
Good to know
- Feed photos are generally stored at around 1080 pixels wide, so don’t expect a poster-sized file from an ordinary post.
- If the picture is your own, your phone’s gallery still has the full-size original, and that will always beat anything you download back from Instagram.
