How to Save Instagram Photos in Full Quality

Updated October 20, 2026

The usual way people keep an Instagram photo is a screenshot. It works, but you get a lower-resolution copy with the phone’s interface around it, and then you have to crop it. Saving the real file is better.

Get the file, not a screenshot

  1. Tap the paper-plane icon under the photo and choose Copy link.
  2. Open the photo downloader and paste the link.
  3. Press Download and tap the button under the picture.

What quality should you expect?

Instagram generally keeps feed photos at around 1080 pixels wide, however big the original was. That’s plenty for a phone, a slideshow or a small print, but it won’t stretch to a large poster.

If the photo is yours

Don’t download it back from Instagram. The original in your phone’s gallery, or on your camera’s card, is bigger and cleaner. Use the downloaded version only when the original is lost.

Several photos in one post

Posts with a row of dots hold more than one picture. The carousel downloader lists each slide separately so you can take just the ones you need.
