Where Do Downloaded Instagram Videos Go? Find Them on iPhone, Android & PC
You pressed Download, the page said it worked, and now you can’t find the video. That’s one of the most common questions we get, and the answer depends on your device. Here is where an Instagram video ends up on each one, and how to bring it into your Photos or Gallery.
iPhone and iPad
Safari keeps your downloads in its own list, not in Photos.
- Tap the arrow icon next to the address bar (or aA menu › Downloads).
- Tap the video, then tap the share icon.
- Choose Save Video to put it in Photos, or Save to Files to keep it as a file.
You can also open the Files app › Browse › Downloads to see everything Safari saved.
Android
- Open Files (or My Files) › Downloads.
- In Chrome, tap the three dots › Downloads to see recent files.
- The Gallery or Google Photos usually shows the video under a Downloads album. If not, open it once from Files.
Windows
Open File Explorer › Downloads (in the left sidebar), or press Ctrl + J in Chrome or Edge to open the browser’s downloads list and click Show in folder.
Mac
Open Finder › Downloads, or click the arrow icon in Safari’s toolbar. In Chrome press Cmd + Shift + J. To make it easy to find, drag the folder to your Dock.
Move the video to your photo library
- iPhone: Save Video from the Share menu.
- Android: long-press the file in Files › Move to › DCIM or Movies.
- Computer: drag the MP4 into Photos (Mac) or the Pictures/Videos folder (Windows), or upload it to iCloud, Google Photos or OneDrive.
Still missing?
Download again from the video downloader and watch for the “download complete” message. If the video opened in a tab instead of saving, use the three-dot menu on the player and choose Download. Our troubleshooting guide covers the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Why can’t I find my downloaded video?
Browsers save files in a Downloads folder, not in the photo gallery. On iPhone you open the Downloads list in Safari and tap Save Video. On other devices, open the Files or Downloads folder.
Can I change where downloads are saved?
Yes. In Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer, choose a download folder in the browser’s settings. On phones, the location is fixed by the system.
Does deleting the file from Downloads delete it from my gallery?
If it’s the same file, yes. Copy it to another folder or cloud storage first if you want to keep it.
