How to Download Instagram Reels on Android (No App, HD)
Android is the simplest phone to do this on, because Chrome saves files to a normal Downloads folder and the Gallery picks them up. You don’t need an APK, a special app or your Instagram password. This is the whole process for a Reel.
Step by step
- Open the Reel in the Instagram app. Tap the paper-plane icon on the right-hand side.
- Tap Copy link.
- Open Chrome and go to the Reels downloader.
- Tap Paste (or press and hold in the box and choose Paste) and then Download.
- Tap the top quality button. Chrome shows “Downloading” and then “Download complete”.
- Open Files › Downloads, or the Gallery, to watch it.
Why not use a downloader app?
Many “Reels downloader” apps outside the Play Store ask for odd permissions, show full-screen ads or add their own watermark. A browser tool has none of that: it opens, saves the file and closes. If you like the feel of an app, you can add SaveInstant to your home screen from Chrome’s menu. It then opens like an app but is still just a web page.
Getting the best quality
- Choose the first button on the result. It’s the highest quality Instagram offers.
- Use Wi-Fi if you can. Large Reels take a few seconds on a weak signal.
- Remember that a Reel can’t be sharper than what the creator uploaded. See how to download Reels in HD for more.
Fixing common Android problems
- Chrome blocks the download. Tap the notification and choose Keep, or allow downloads for the site in Chrome’s settings.
- The Reel is not in the Gallery. Open Files, tap the video once and wait a few seconds. Some phones also need a restart of the Gallery app.
- The browser opens the video instead of saving it. Tap the three dots on the player and choose Download.
For other kinds of posts, see the general Android video guide. Reels belong to the creators who made them, so keep your copy for personal viewing and ask before you repost.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an APK or a downloader app on Android?
No. Chrome can download the MP4 directly. Apps from outside the Play Store can carry malware or heavy ads, so we recommend the browser.
Where is the Reel after I download it?
In Files › Downloads, and usually in the Gallery or Google Photos under Downloads. If it’s missing, open it once from Files.
Is the Reel saved in HD?
You get the best quality Instagram stored for that Reel, often 1080 pixels wide. The first button on the result is always the highest one available.
